In order to give some elements of answer to the questions raised during this symposium on the need for proper guidelines to evaluate non-literary forms of representation in anthropology, and on the need for other ways of knowing and communicating about 'the human condition' the three of us decided to elaborate a presentation instead of producing a paper or a Powerpoint.
The idea was to closely link the ways we could think, read and look with some practical output or with some digital conceptualization.

Our methodology: we met once a month during the 6 months prior to this panel to share our different point of views, our questions, hesitations and to conceive an interactive object.

  1. Who are we? Family Tree
  2. Cultural Stereotypes vs personal observation
  3. Our main question?
  4. Methodology
  5. How to read meaningful elements captured by the pictures?
  6. How to understand visual elements from the textual?
  7. Proposal of hybridisation
  8. How can we conceive an article by mixing both elements equally?

Our main question?

We were confronted by a distinctive approach between films and text

Two distinct supports as if the human condition could be split between pictures, sounds and texts

Methodology

The problematic of our presentation is to render the questions and difficulties when your mind is split in two, following the resources you are working on from the same film we try to underline:

The pictures reveal information

Understanding, social awareness, sensitive perception of the space without mentioning it

The text gives access to information without any chance to visualize it, except by our own imagination.

We try to render some kind of hybrid publicationby mixing sources and to have text and pictures on the same frame or at least on the same screen even if the frame could be successive and not alternative.

  • How to read meaningful elements captured by the pictures?

  • How to understand visual elements from the textual?

Proposal of hybridisation

How can we conceive an article by mixing both elements equally?
